Kitchari is the ultimate comfort food. We grew up eating this savory porridge like dish on cold winter days or when we were feeling under the weather. Packed with protein from the lentils and stomach cleansing spices, this dish is a staple in most South Asian homes. It is a one pot dish that is amazingly easy to make and customizable based on your personal preference. The version we grew up with is simple and straight forward to follow. Try this dish at home using our Fusion Garam Masala.

2 cups of water
1/4 cup basmati rice
1/4 cup yellow moong bean lentils
1/2 tsp Fusion Garam Masala
1/2 tsp dry ginger (optional)
1/2tsp dry garlic (optional)
salt and pepper to taste
Wash the rice and the lentils until the water is completely clear
In a large saucepan bring 2 cups of water to a boil and add in your rice, lentils, garam masala and salt/pepper.
Mix the mixture, reduce the heat and let simmer for 24-35 minutes or until it is the same consistency of porridge.
For added flavour you can add dried garlic and ginger. You can also use vegetable/meat stock instead of water for an extra boost of nutrients.
